Tell us a little about you.
I’m a 26 year old wife, mom (to a sassy but sweet girl who is two going on 20) and a small business owner.
What is your current business? Did you do something else prior to this?
My business is DeSIGNed by Brittany! I create custom signs (wooden, canvas, etc.) for the home, as a gift and for all occasions – weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, company events, birthdays and more. Sign rentals are also available. I’ve recently launched customizable products, selfie frames, car decals, shirts and pre-cut vinyl for your own DIY projects.
I’m also a stay at home momma and I love every minute of it.
How did you get into this business? Do you have a design or art background?
I’ve always had an interest in refinishing furniture and for years I made it a hobby of mine. Taking an old piece of furniture and enhancing its original parts or creating an entirely new piece from the original. That’s the fun in restoring – you can turn old into new and new into old. Wood is an amazing outlet for expressing your creative side. So from there, I decided to remain involved in restoring but take it to a new level by creating signs. Using paint or vinyl, each piece is unique and made specifically for you.
What is your biggest challenge as you work to establish and grow your business?
I would say finding a good balance. It can be challenging to divide time so all aspects of life are maintained and nurtured equally, while trying to build a successful business.
How do you get the word out about Designed by Brittany?
Word of mouth and who you know help tremendously. I utilize many Facebook pages and groups as well as my own personal Facebook and Instagram pages. I am involved in events where I have the opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs and vendors. Business cards are a must!
With a little one at home, how do you make time for your business?
It’s all about balance and learning to have good time management skills. It’s not always easy but you make it work! Sometimes that means letting little hands “help” you make a sign.
