Our latest mom certainly stays busy with not one, but three businesses! I guess there is something to be said for diversifying. Read on to learn about Megan, who is a fellow military vet and nanny (yes, I was a nanny in a former life!).
Tell us a little about you (family, background, etc, as you feel comfortable).
Well I’m an only child originally from Maryland, I joined the Navy and lived in Japan for almost four years and San Diego for two. Now I’m back home. I have an amazing son named Peyton, he will be four on July 7th!
What are your current businesses?
I currently nanny for two amazing families, run my own photography business and I’m a massage therapist!
How did you get into these businesses?
Well, I’ve always loved children. Honestly, the one thing I’ve always felt good about and wanted to be was a mom. And kids just always are comfortable around me. I’m basically a big kid, lol. Photography came to me naturally, as I ALWAYS take photos of everything. I finally got a nice camera and taught myself everything I know today! I now have a great photography business and I am loving it. And massage saved me when I was pregnant. I went into it to always have a secure job, since I’m a single mother, but I don’t want it as a career necessarily. I love doing it, though!
You seem to have a lot going on. How do you stay organized with multiple businesses?
HA! Having ADHD, I’m probably one of the most unorganized people you’ll meet. But I know what’s in my mess and clutter. Luckily I have an amazing boyfriend and some great friends that assist with keeping me organized. And I have to write everything down. My planner is my baby!
What is your biggest challenge as you work to establish and grow your businesses?
TIME! There is not enough time in a day, I’m also a night owl so I could literally stay up until 3 a.m. But waking up at 7 a.m. doesn’t come easy. So I’m working on time management for sure, because I do love sleep!
With a little one at home, how do you make time for your business?
Luckily my son is super into what I do – he loves being around, he knows when mommy is taking photos to not run and jump in the way. But he also loves babies, so when the mom is feeding and I’m taking a break, he always wants to go see the baby.
